CA Intermediate - Overview
CA Intermediate or CA Inter is the second level course of the Chartered Accountancy exams. It consists of two groups of three subjects each. After clearing CA Foundation, a student becomes eligible to register for the ICAI CA Intermediate course. While preparing for the CA course, Intermediate is the first stage that equips the students with in-depth knowledge of the various aspects of Finance and Accounting.

Eligibility for CA Intermediate Registration
There are two ways a student can register for the CA intermediate course.
- Through CA Foundation Course
Registered students who have cleared the CA Foundation Exams conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
Candidates are allowed to skip the CA Foundation level and the CA Foundation Exams to gain a direct place in the CA intermediate level, given that they satisfy the following criteria:
- They are a commerce graduate/ post-graduate (passed with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks) or other graduate/ post-graduate (passed with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks) in their graduation.
OR
- They have cleared the Intermediate level exam conducted by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Such candidates are also eligible for direct entry into the CA inter level.
- They are a graduate or postgraduate student who has secured a minimum aggregate of 55% in any three out of these subjects — Accounting, Auditing, Mercantile Laws, Corporate Laws, Economics, Management or Financial Management, Taxation- Direct Tax Laws and Indirect Tax Laws, Costing and Business Administration or Management Accounting.
CA Intermediate Registration Fees
The CA intermediate registration fees structure is as follows:

Note: Direct entry students will need to pay an additional Rs. 200 (US $ 20) for the Cost of Prospectus.
Special note for students from the newly-formed Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, and North-East States
Students from the above-specified regions are eligible for a concession on their CA inter registration fees.
They will need to pay only Rs. 4500/- for both groups and Rs. 3250/- for the single group if they register between 20th September 2019 and 31st March 2022.
To avail the concession, students need to upload the following self-attested documents at the time of registration in addition to the other documents required:
- Domicile Certificate
- Proof of Identity – Aadhaar Card / Passport / Voter ID
Accepted mode of payment
Students will be required to pay the requisite fees during the online registration process. The payment is accepted via online mode through: Net banking/ debit card/ RUPAY card/ VISA or MASTER or MAESTRO credit card/ BHIM UPI.
If the payment is successful, the system will automatically generate the form along with a successful transaction message. You should save it for future reference.
The validity of registration for CA Intermediate Course is up to 4 years. If you wish to renew it, you can do so unlimited times for 4 more years by depositing a revalidation fee of Rs.400/- (subject to change by the Council’s decision)
List of Documents Required for CA Intermediate Registration
The CA inter registration process involves submitting scanned copies of your original documents. Be ready with these ahead of time to prevent any last-minute errors.
Here are the documents required for CA Intermediate course registration:
- CA Foundation route entry students need to submit an attested copy of the mark sheet of Class 12th or its equivalent exams along with the Pass Marks statement of examination issued by a recognized They will also need to provide a digital copy of their CA Foundation main exam.
- CA Direct Entry Scheme students are needed to submit attested copies of their Graduation/ Post Graduation mark statements. They will also be asked to submit their Mark Sheet of Intermediate level examination of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.
- All candidates must provide one recent colour photograph (affixed to the printout of the online successful CA inter registration form)
- Attested copy of proof of Nationality, if the student is a foreigner.
Attested copy of proof of special category certificate, i.e., SC/ST, OBC, disabled.

CA Intermediate Exam Form And Fees
Students who wish to appear for the exams are required to fill the exam/ application form released by the ICAI.
The following steps can be followed to fill the intermediate examination form:

- Click on apply now
- Fill in the required details and click on Save & Preview
- Make the required payment of fees online
- Download the PDF form

Commencement of Article ship
After clearing either or both the groups of CA intermediate, a student has to undergo an article ship/ practical training for a period of 2 years.
Before the commencement of article ship, a student has to undergo 2 practical trainings of 4 weeks duration each i.e., ICITSS and AICITSS.
All these three trainings are compulsory in nature.
The Intermediate student has to undergo ICITSS (IT/OC) courses before commencement of Practical Training for both the Routes (Foundation/ Direct Entry).
- A student is required to complete AICITSS (AIT & MCS) after completion of
Practical Training but before appearing in Final Examination.
